Great question! The answer: it depends.
Thankfully, in Lancaster County, we have options, ranging through all the seasons!
For my college seniors, photos usually take place in May.
For high school seniors, your session can happen any time between your last day as a junior and graduation day. I’ve taken photos over the summer, all the way up until a month before graduation.
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Does the senior need access to sports jerseys & fields?
- Would you like to include the cap and gown in the session?
- Are there are any photo deadlines, such as an ad for grad, in the back of the yearbook?
- What does the senior’s schedule look like? Pre season, vacation, games, etc. Take them all into account!
If it means anything: the majority of my senior sessions have taken place over the summer, before school begins. However, it truly does not matter, as long as the timing works for you, and you have all the props/location(s) that you need!
